Singapore’s GST InvoiceNow Mandate: How to Offset Costs with the S$1,000 Transition Grant & PSG
The Mandate is Moving Forward, But Subsidies Are Available
If your business is GST-registered in Singapore, e-invoicing is steadily moving from an optional digital initiative to an official requirement. Under the phased GST InvoiceNow Requirement, businesses will progressively need to transmit invoice data directly to IRAS via the Peppol network.
Whenever compliance rules change, the immediate concern for business owners is cost. Upgrading legacy systems, onboarding new software, and training staff require both time and capital.
The good news is that the government has put practical support measures in place. By tapping into the S$1,000 GST InvoiceNow Transition Grant alongside the Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG), SMEs can significantly lower the overall expense of transitioning to a compliant setup.
Here is a breakdown of what these grants offer and the key criteria you need to keep in mind.
1. The GST InvoiceNow Transition Grant (S$1,000)
The Transition Grant is a targeted, S$1,000 cash grant designed to help smaller businesses offset the direct operational cost of adopting an InvoiceNow-Ready Solution or connecting through an Access Point.
Who is eligible?
GST-registered businesses with total annual turnover/supplies of S$4 million or less.
The qualifying period:
The grant runs from 1 July 2026 until 31 March 2030 (or until allocated funds are fully disbursed).
The key requirement to watch:
To qualify for the S$1,000 payout, your software subscription or connection package must be contracted and paid for a minimum of 12 months in a single, upfront invoice. Paying on a month-to-month plan will disqualify your submission, so it is essential to ensure your vendor bills the qualifying period correctly from day one.
2. The Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG)
While the Transition Grant focuses on the specific costs of e-invoicing connectivity, the Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG) is designed to support the broader adoption of pre-approved digital solutions.
What it covers:
PSG supports the purchase of pre-scoped IT solutions, software licenses, implementation, and initial user training.
Funding quantum:
Eligible local SMEs can receive up to 50% funding support, capped at S$30,000 per company across approved deployment categories.
Because modern accounting systems streamline daily operations while meeting regulatory standards, PSG serves as the primary route to halving the upfront software deployment expense.
Stacking Your Subsidies Strategically
You do not have to choose between one grant or the other. They target separate aspects of your digital setup:
PSG can be utilized to absorb up to 50% of your primary software implementation, licensing, and onboarding costs.
The GST InvoiceNow Transition Grant provides a direct S$1,000 cash reimbursement toward your annual e-invoicing connectivity and subscription fees.
Structuring your upgrade this way allows you to modernize your finance workflow with minimal out-of-pocket friction before statutory deadlines arrive.
Plan Your Transition Early
Navigating grant criteria and vendor requirements takes planning. Ensuring your invoice documentation, contract duration, and system specifications align with official guidelines will save your team from unnecessary claim rejections down the road.
